Our Bedlington Terriers Dasha and Karina love homemade meals and biscuits we bake for them. We use Nikken vitamins and other supplements developed for cats and dogs. IT ALL STARTS WITH FOOD... Cats and dogs are so accustomed to pre-packaged food these days that it is not always easy to switch them to a healthier alternative. However, if we want our companion animals to live long and healthy lives we must always keep their diet in focus. |
Twenty five years of research by American scientist Irene Pepperberg, a world-renowned authority on African Greys, has shown that Grey Parrots have the cognitive intelligence equal to a 5 year old child and communication skills equal to a 2 year old. Pico, who came to our family when she was 10 weeks old, communicates with us in English and Russian. When I was teaching her to speak, being a professional Foreign Languages Instructor, I used some of the approaches developed to teach children foreign languages... Pico has proved to be an outstanding student. Now she gives instructions to our cats and Bedlington Terriers, and, when she is hungry, she asks for whatever she wants first in Russian, and then, if we are not quick enough, in English. The tortoiseshell cat, or tortie for short, carries the same color genes, red and black, as the calico. But instead of having bold patches of color on his coat, the tortoiseshell has a mottled coat pattern in which the red hair is mixed in with the black as though an artist had flecked the hair lightly with a brush dipped in red paint. If the tortie's hair is gray mixed with tan, he is called a blue tortoiseshell. Torties may carry a white spotting gene, which creates a tortie and white cat. Over the centuries, tortoiseshell cats have been considered to be good luck. Legend has it that in Scotland and Ireland, it is a good omen when a stray tortoiseshell cat takes up residence in one's home. It is believed that Japanese fishermen take a tortoiseshell cat to sea with them to protect them from the ghosts of their ancestors. A French proverb says that anyone with a tortoiseshell cat is safe from fevers. In England, the close proximity to a tortoiseshell cat supposedly helped a person develop the power of clairvoyance. When Charlie had a problem with his ears and was scratching his head relentlessly, his favourite place became Nikken's KenkoSeat Plus with magnets and far-infrared technology. KenkoSeat and Kenko PetPad, another Nikken product, use the same technologies and provide comfort and warmth appreciated by people and pets alike. |
A gentle massage with Magboy, a magnetic device developed by Nikken, was also very helpful. Now Magboy is Charlie's best friend, - he loves magnetic massage! |
